Adult Volleyball Clinics

The IVL sponsors adult volleyball clinics in February and November at Wilcox High School in the city of Santa Clara, or at Peterson Middle School in Sunnyvale. Both individuals and teams can sign up. Clinics are held on Saturdays for four hours (with an hour of optional open play afterwards). Cost for clinic is $60/person.

Many of the skills in volleyball are covered along with team defense and offense. Individuals are broken up into groups ahead of time so they can go through the drills with other players of similar backgrounds. You can view photos of past clinics.

In November, 2011 2-time Olympian and 2-time NCAA Player of the Year Kim Oden led the clinic. Other instructors included Tom Jack (former high school coach, Sunnyvale Rec Dept. class instructor and the person behind volleyball.org), Mal Taylor (former high school and college coach and USAV All-American) and Dave Winn (coach of the two-time Division I State Champion Palo Alto HS Girls' Varsity).

Coaches for the past clinics have included Kerrie Walsh (Olympic Gold Medalist), Cary Wendell (2-time NCAA player of the year), John Kosty (former All-American and coach of the NCAA Champion Stanford Cardinal Men's Team), Rob Patrick (former collegiate and national coed player, current coach at Tennessee), Lisa Sharpley, Barbara Ifejika, Wendy Hromadka, Marnie Triefenbach, Laurie Sawin-Quinn, Anne Wicks, and Debbie Lambert (former members of the NCAA National Champion Stanford Cardinal women's volleyball team), Brian Garrett (former Stanford Men's Team member), Craig Lauchner (former member of Stanford Men's and U.S. National Teams), Samantha Shaver (former All-American at UCLA and former member of the U.S. National Team), Joyce Rimbach (former SJSU player and All-American from the Coed National Champion Just Volleyball team), Jon Clough (local juniors' coach and former assistant coach for the Stanford Women), Jennifer Detmer and Lindsay Kagawa (former members of the Stanford Cardinal women's volleyball team), Phil Coyle (former high school coach and AA player), Denise Sheldon (former Collegiate All-American), Eric Ballelos (former collegiate player and head coach of the Peninsula Juniors) and Jason Tripp (AA player and current high school and juniors coach).
